BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Waja Grimm

Ms. Grimm has served on the Northern Virginia Training Center (NVTC) Space Utilization Committee, Habilitation Committee, and others since 1984.  She was an active member of the Northern Virginia Committee on Downsizing of NVTC and Discharge of Residents to the Community from 1993–1996.  Ms. Grimm has been a board member of Parents and Associates of NVTC since 1985 and is currently Co-President of the organization.  She is also a current member of The Arc of Greater Prince William County, the Northern Virginia Coalition for Mentally Disabled Citizens of Virginia, Parents and Associates of the Institutionalized Retarded (PAIR) of Virginia, the Virginia State Coalition for Mentally Disabled Citizens of Virginia, and the Voice of the Retarded.  Ms. Grimm has attended the Executive Director’s Committee of the Northern Virginia Community Services Board since 1995 and since 1997 has been a Steering Committee member of the Northern Virginia Regional Community Support System.  She also served on a number of committees formed by the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services (DMHMRAS) from 1995–2001.  These included the Systems Reform Committee, Pilot Leadership Team, Priority Population Committee, State Plan Option Committee, Medicaid Waiver Advisory Committee, and Medicaid Review Committee.  She served on the DMHMRSAS Human Rights Study Group in 1997 and was also a member of the 1996 Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) Study Group on Managed Care and the HJR 240 Mental Retardation Workgroup (1996–1998).  From 1978–1985, Ms. Grimm was employed by the Allen Corporation, a defense contractor involved in the collection and processing of thermal recognition data at Ft. Belvoir.  She attended Orange County Community College in Orange County, California as well as the University of Colorado at Boulder.
