BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Charles Cooper

Mr. Charles Cooper has been married to Ann McDonald Cooper for 50 years.  They are parents of three children, four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.  He holds a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Tennessee and is a graduate of the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program of the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia.  He and his wife began their involvement in disability advocacy and related activities when their son, Chuck, was one year old.  Chuck is now 48 and has Down Syndrome and lives a happy and fulfilled life.

His professional experience is as a Naval Weapons designer and his position at retirement was Head of the Missile and Gun Systems Division at the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren, Virginia.  His community activities in the disability area include membership in his area ARC and on the Rappahannock Area Disabilities Board.

He currently serves on the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (Planning District 16) and is the immediate past Board Chairman and presently serves as Chairman of the Planning Committee and on the Executive Board.  In 2005, Mr. Cooper was presented with the Distinguished Service Award by the Fredericksburg Jaycees and has received numerous other professional and volunteer honors.
